Understanding giving at HCC
Hudson Community Chapel is richly blessed by a generous congregation, whether it is financial gifts, material goods, or an investment of time. We are grateful for the ways this body works together, ministering to each other and surrounding communities. As responsible stewards of our resources, it is important for us to communicate with you regarding charitable giving from a Biblical perspective and governmental standards.
At HCC giving is viewed as both an act of obedience and an act of worship. We act in obedience to the commandments of scripture to give generously so that we may help others come to know Jesus, via local ministry, missionary efforts, and aiding those in physical need. Beyond that we also give as an act of worship for what God has given us—sacrificial offerings laid before our God, pleasing and fragrant to Him.[2 Cor 8:1-15, 9:6-15, Luke 21:1-4] From a Biblical perspective, we believe that we are called to give both tithes and offerings for the Lord’s work. Rooted in the Old Testament [Mal. 3:8-12], the term tithe means a tenth and is usually associated with giving a tenth of the first fruits as a sacrificial gift to God—an act of obedience. Offerings are gifts given beyond the tithe as expressions of joy, thanksgiving, and love—acts of worship.
At HCC, contributions are typically made to the general fund. Our annual budget is carefully reviewed by our Elder Board. We encourage giving to the general fund so that our operating budget is reflective of the church’s vision, established through prayer, study of Biblical principles and the mutual efforts of the staff and Elders.
